NAT HORNE (N.Y.)

DIRECTOR / CHOREOGRAPHER

For eleven years Nat Horne's Musical Theatre and School on Theatre Row in New York City provided classes in singing, dancing and acting to youngsters seeking a professional career in theatre. As a West Virginia newspaper put it, "Nat launched many Broadway careers with his non-profit operation.
Thousands of young people benefited from the classes and hundreds were taught free of charge in Horne's special scholarship program."; New York magazine considers Nat "as charming and hard working teacher you will find."

Nat teaches from experience as well as talent: he's performed on Broadway for eighteen years, and in film, television and nightclubs.
He has worked with many stars such as Robert Preston, Lauren Bacall, Anne Baxter, Rob Lowe, Pearl Bailey, Judy Garland, Rod Steiger, Sammy Davis, Jr., Cab Calloway, Alvin Ailey, and under the direction of Harold Prince, Ron Fields, Gene Frankle and Morton DaCosta (director of the original production of The Music Man).

No longer teaching at his own school, Nat is instead choreographing and teaching master classes around the world, including France, Switzerland, Japan, Venezuela, Israel, Corsica, and Germany.
His expertise and love of teaching never ceases to surprise and inspire both professionals and amateurs with his unique method and never ending dynamic. Nat's gift is to teach not only technique but to impart the true meaning and feeling of dance.

His choreography for West Side Story and Cabaret in Germany brought high critical and audience acclaim. One German critic wrote that Nat's choreography was, "infused with vitality," and another said, "his work has style, grace, and great strength; it is exhilarating and overpowering." Still another wrote, "it has bite, tempo, a compelling glow, color, fantasy, heat and wit. So great was the vitality that has gone into the work that a standing ovation was assured."

In December 1994, Nat's choreography was seen in Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Swing, presented by The Lula Elzy New Orleans Dance Theatre.

THE HORNE TECHNIQUE

I like to dance with B.B. Body.
